(Narinjara News, 13 August 2014)Nine Arakanese children died in Sittwe general hospital of Arakan within two months suffering from the disease of meningitis, informed Dr San Aung from the Sittwe hospital.
“The casualties have increased up to 9 after a child from Rathidaung township died with the meningitis disease recently,” added Dr Aung San.
The last victim is identified as Nay Zaw Lin (10 years), who was the son of U Hla Win hailing from Kyauk Yan village under Rathidaung township of Arakan.
The meningitis disease is rarely diagnosed in Arakan of western Burma. There was no record of the disease in the State last year.

the disease.
Till date, the Sittwe hospital has treated many children with the disease and most of them were discharged from the hospital.
“At this moment, not less than 12 children are undergoing treatment in the Sittwe hospital with the disease. Earlier the physicians of the hospital treated over 30 children successfully there,” concluded Dr Aung San.
