Two Myanmar political party leaders escape suspected assassination

KUALA LUMPUR - Two Myanmar political party leaders narrowly escaped what was suspected to be an assassination attempt in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP) chairman Aye Maung, Arakan League for Democracy Party chairman Aye Thor Aung, and two other Myanmar nationals were in a BMW car at the Bukit Bintang shopping area when shots were fired at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, Bernama news agency reported.

It said a motorcycle pillion rider fired several shots in the direction of the car before escaping from the scene.

Initial police investigations have not ruled out that the pillion rider and his accomplice could be Myanmar nationals.
