World Film Festival of Bangkok postponed

The World Film Festival of Bangkok has been postponed from November 4 to 13 until January 20 to 27 due to the floods in Thailand.

Floodwaters have threatened Bangkok and surrounding provinces and as the government expects the effects to continue through November, the festival organiser has decided to reschedule the programme for a number of reasons.

First of all, transportation will pose a problem for many people especially filmgoers whose houses are flooded. Secondly, at the preparation stage, the logistics of the films will be problematic as many parts of Bangkok are at risk. Planned receptions for foreign guests may also face problems.

The organiser has already obtained about 80 per cent of the films to be screened at the festival. "However, those films also have to travel to other festivals and our urgent task is to send them back in time," said Kriangsak Silakong, the festival director.

The new schedule will mean some minor changes to the programme but the director says that the event will try to maintain the original lineup. Foreign guests will be revised but they have been informed about the new schedule and hopefully, will be able to join the event.
