The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok and the Singapore Red Cross on Wednesday presented SGD 100,000 in flood relief to the Thai Red Cross.
Singapore deputy chief of mission William Tan and the director of operations of the Singapore Red Cross Lim Theam Poh made the donation to the Thai Red Cross this morning.
The Singapore government has contributed SGD100,000 as seed money for the public appeal in Singapore. The Singapore Red Cross aims to raise at least SGD 1 million for its "South East Asia Flood Appeal" in aid of Thailand, Cambodia and other countries in the region affected by recent floods, according to the embassy statement.
The appeal will continue till November 30 in Singapore. Meanwhile Singapore’s President Tony Tan Keng Yam has sent a condolence letter to His Majesty King on the loss of lives and damage caused by the severe floods in Thailand.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also sent a condolence letter to Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the statement said.
