Man arrested after fatal stabbing of 12-year-old girl

A man has been arrested after the body of a 12-year-old girl was discovered in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police were called to a house in Dalmain Close at 1545 BST and found the girl with multiple stab wounds.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested and is currently being questioned.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
A post-mortem examination will take place later. The girl has not yet been formally identified.
Ch Supt John O'Hare, of GMP, said: "This is a shocking incident which has had a dramatic effect on the family and will no doubt cause concern in the local community.
"The investigation is at an early stage and an arrest has been made."
