Press Release
16 July , 2015
Arakan Army is concern that
two Burmese soldiers captured by Arakan Army during the battle with
Myanmar Army on 29, 30 March ,2015. Ever
since, they were treated by the AA with humanitarian background and
dignity according to Geneva Convention the Treatment of Prisoner of War.
16 July , 2015
AA had meeting with representative from ICRC , Deputy Representative of
Bangladesh at Dhaka on 10 June, 2015 and ICRC had agreed to provide
safety and humanitarian assistance for those POWs, and thus we
accordingly had handed over the two men, Corporal Naing Tun and Private
Khine Zaw Lin on 14 July ,2015.
However, much to our dismay, the Bangladeshi Newspapers (The Daily News , The New Nation and Bangla News 24) reported that these two soldiers were captured by BGB and – their fates are unknown. If those POWs were repatriated by BGB back to Myanmar Army they could face penalty or very serious punishment. We believe that ICRC is fully aware of the facts and responsible for their welfare and safety.
