Open Letter to H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Royal Thai Government

On behalf of World Arakanese Organization, WAO-USA President Daw Hla Than Wai has sent the letters to Prime Minister of Thai Royal Government and Ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in U.S.A regarding Koh Tao Murder Case. WAO also send the letters to the ambassador of United Kingdom to Thailand and U.S. ambassador to Thailand. And the copies of letter have been sent through e-mail to the President U Thein Sein of the Republic of the Union of Myanm, Prime Minister Divid Cameron of United Kingdom and U.S. President Barack Obama.

WAO expresses their heartfelt condolence on the murder of two British citizens— Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, in Koh Tao Island in Thailand. WAO has understood that the Thai authorities need to solve the murder case immediately-- to bring justice and to restore the safety of Thai citizens and visitors in Thailand.

Regarding the Koh Tao murder case, WAO has learnt there are two migrant workers from Myanmar, whose name are Mr. Zaw Lin and Mr. Win Zaw Htun, both 21, were arrested by Royal Thai Police in Koh Tao Island. They have been accused publicly and forcibly and detained under Royal Thai police custody.

After the review of news and information from reliable sources, WAO has come to believe the accused suspects Mr. Zaw Lin and Mr. Win Zaw Htun, native of Kyauk Pru Township of Arakan State, were tortured and forced to confess during the investigation process. This clearly indicates mishandling and bias in the murder investigation that they were arrested without a clear probable cause.

Therefore, WAO strongly urge the Royal Thai Government to conduct an independent investigation on the handling of Koh Tao murder case by the Royal Thai Police. WAO also demand the unconditional release of Mr. Zaw Lin and Mr. Win Zaw Htun from the police custody unless an independent investigation proves the absolute correctness in handling of Khao Tao murder case.
