Volcano erupts in western Burma, destroys over 100 acre farm land

A mud volcano in Kyouk Phyu township of Arakan in western Burma erupted and it destroyed over 100 acre farmland, said the locals.

The volcano named Rebel Dragon, situated nearby Shouk Chaung village under Kyouk Phyu township erupted at 5 pm on 31 August and remained silent at 7:20 pm same evening. Rebel Dragon normally erupts once in 45 years.

Melted lava, flashed out from 100 feet high volcano up to one thousand feet and flowed out to the farm land of Say Maw and Kyatin villages.

U Kyaw Win, a villager from Shouk Chaung informed that he heard the sound of explosion in the evening. The hot lava was almost flying in the sky and bellowed out to the surrounding localities, which he saw from his farm land.

One acre of his farm land was also destroyed by the volcano eruption, added U Kyaw Win.

Narinjara reporter tried to contact U Kyaw Thu Soe, chief administrator of Kyouk Phyu township, but it went on ringing without any response.

U Sann Kyi, a village leader from Shouk Chaung agreed to the information that the volcano destroyed a huge area of farm land owned by 17 farmers and they become helpless now.
