The director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department insisted Friday that Bangkok will be safe from the deluge of flood waters.
"Bangkok will be safe" Chalit Damrongsak, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department announced today, at the Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC) press conference Friday.
He said that water level at the Chao Phraya River would be 2.3-2.4 metres high on October 15, when the situation is expected to peak.
At the press conference, Bangkok Deputy Governor Pornthep Tejapaibool said that at the level, water is below the flood barriers which are monitored by 5,000 men.
Science Minister Plodprasob Surassawadee noted that though the inner city of Bangkok would be safe, suburban areas - Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Chachoengsao - would be flooded to save the capital city.
