The former prime minister of Nepal, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, has died at the age of 87.
Doctors had been treating Mr Bhattarai for a range of complaints at the Norvic hospital in Kathmandu. He was said to have suffered multiple organ failure.Mr Bhattarai became PM in 1990 after the successful campaign to restore multiparty democracy.
He served as prime minister again from May 1999 to March 2000.
Mr Bhattarai helped bring in a new constitution guaranteeing democratic rights during his first tenure.
His anti-corruption drives gave him the image of a clean politician.
Nepal's government has declared a period of national mourning.
