People in the south Armagh village of Bessbrook have expressed their horror after a mother was raped while out walking with her children.
The 23-year-old was walking in Derramore Woods on Saturday when she noticed a man with a dog following her.He attacked the woman and only ran off when one of the children began to cry.
Sinn Fein councillor Pat McGinn said the area was a local beauty spot near a residential area. He said the community was horrified by what had happened.
"Whilst it is secluded, you can see houses, you can hear the noise of the cars. It's just unbelievable to try to imagine the horror that has taken place down here," he added.
BBC Radio Ulster reporter Barbara Collins was at the scene on Sunday and said there was a pronounced sense of disgust in the area.
One woman who lives near the woods told our reporter that she was "shocked and horrified".
"I just find it awful that a young woman and her children were subjected to such an awful ordeal," she said.
"It's a local beauty spot and you see a lot of people going walking in the area. It's very scenic - but obviously now it's very dangerous as well."
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone who was in the area at about 1645 GMT on Saturday to contact them.
They have said the man was in his 50s, with white hair. He was wearing a beret and a dark-coloured jacket.
He was walking a white dog with a tartan coat.
