Who is really burning houses and killing people in Arakan?

By Khine Thurein On 15th June 2012 / 1:36 PM Conflicts are still going on in Arakan, but, I am sure my peoples didn't start it, and my people are not making the conflicts bigger. Finally, my peoples are not burning and killing the Bengali Rohingyas and my people are not lying to the world. I am 100% sure that we are telling the truth and we are the peoples who love peace. If you have time, you will find the truth listening the voice coming form the heart and if you could read the eyes that will tell you truth stories. Will you believe it if a person burn his/ her own house? Will you believe it if Arakaneses are one of the poorest peoples who are facing dead-end street as we have lack of support and understanding from the international community and the government. No power in hand to manage and plan of our future living under the situation of suffocation situations as a huge amount of illegal migrants is the same number or more of the Arakan local peop

The root cause of Riots in Arakan

Won Thar Nu On international medias, news about riots in Arakan State have been described as sectarian conflicts between Buddhists and Muslims. In fact, it is not as simple as those reporters described. Nor just racial conflict as well. So, in order to trace the culprit behind these riots, we need to know relevant historical background for certain reference. Today, what we called Rohingyas are originally Chittagonian Benglis who are decedents of Bengalis from Chittagong in Bangladesh. After British occupation in Burma, they migrated to Arakan state in Burma to be employed on farms. After every season, they usually go back to their home. During second world war, following Japanese Invasion into Burma, British troops armed Bengali to support them in case of resisting aggressive Japanese troops. After that, such armed forces were like death penalty for local landlords, Arakanese. Bengali forces brutalized

Excerpt from Interview with Dr. Aye Maung by True News Journal

MBN “The western gate of our country is safeguarded by the lives of our Arakan civilians for decades. However, there are many bribery happening on the side of government. [Bengali Immigrants] bribed the government officials to get what they want [identity cards, release after crimes]. These root events has been happening for centuries. The main mistake is made by election candidates who wanted to win more votes and hence, they brought in many new Bangali Immigrants into Myanmar. Due to these mistakes Maung Daw is surrendered to Bangali illegal Immigrants. Our stand is that we won’t give even an inch of our land to those illegal Bangali Terrorist Immigrants. We won’t give up our land, our breeze, our water which are handed to us by our ancestors.” said by Dr. Aye Maung.

U Hla Saw, the General Secretary of Rakhine Nationalities Development Party comment on UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Myanmar

MBN Q : We have knowledge that UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Myanmar Mr. Vijay Nambiar visited the town of Sittwe through Buthidaung and Maungdaw Townships of Rakhine state and head back straight to Yangon. However, during his trip, he did not meet the representatives of ethnic Rakhine. What’s your say on this? A: I would so much like to talk about this issue. We feel deeply upset about this. There are 3 ministers who represent Rakhine ethnic group, there are Rakhine MPs, there’s the Party which represents Rakhine ethnic group, moreover, at the town of Sittwe, there is a number of gentlemen who are well-respected in the Rakhine community, and in fact, could represent the Rakhine ethnic group. He should, and could meet any of these people. We feel highly upset about Mr. Nambiar’s failure to meet these people despite coming to Rakhine state. That makes us wonder about the stance of UN. There was no press conference either. And that is purely a to

How big is the Rohingya uprising?

May Thingyan Hein (Myintmakha) June 13, 2012 The current situation in Sistway At around 8 o’clock this morning, the military ordered the locals not to go outside with a group of people our reporter informed. In Sistway the local Muslims are surrounded by polices. When being asked, a local Muslim from Sistway said “We have to go to the mosque to get water. The water pipe-lines were broken and we have not been getting water for 10 days. We get rice from the military distributions and donators from Yangon. We also get help from other social organizations but we are still having difficulties. We can go outside only one by one. A curfew is imposed in this area.” As of one o’clock this evening, the situation seems to be restored back to normal in Sistway. When I tried to reach a local Sistway yesterday, I was able to call an Arakanese dealer. His voice was trembling. “The Bengalis are setting Danya Watti monastery on fire. There are a lot of them.
